Congratulations to Meb Keflezighi for winning this year's Boston Marathon! Being from the Boston area it was very special and exciting to see Meb Keflezighi win this year's Boston Marathon. View The Race had the pleasure of meeting Meb and hearing him speak  at last year's RRCA conference in Albuquerque, NM.

New Service: VTR Live Race Filming

View The Race is now offering a new service. In addition to narrated course videos, race website design, and race registration we are now offering live race filming. This is just another way that View The Race can continue to be a resource to runners, cyclists, and triathletes by allowing you to View The Race Before You Do The Race!

How does it work?

The concept is really pretty simple. Everyone enjoys the pictures that photographers take at races. It is pretty cool to see yourself in several snap shots from different areas of the course. What would be better than a picture? Video of course...Everyone loves to see themselves in action on the race course. Even if it is only for a few seconds it is still cool to see what you looked like on a race day.

What makes View The Race different?

Now I have seen many videos of runners crossing the finish line and we definitely will have a camera at the finish line to get that all important finish line sprint on video.  In addition to the finish line video we will also strategically place a second or even third camera to capture racing action from different parts of the course. This will enable athletes to see themselves several times on the course. Imagine seeing yourself on video 3-4 times in the same race.

Video Editing

Probably the most important part of our new service is the video editing. Here are a few things we do to make your live video great to watch.

1) We try to list as many names as possible on the video. As athletes are seen in the video we match up the race numbers with the results and list the athletes name, time, and place as appropriate. We especially like when there is a great sprint to the finish between two racers and we make a note of that on the video when possible. I also will add a few comments if I see something noteworthy. This gives athletes a chance to be "famous" on the video.

2) In order to shorten the length of the video we eliminate any space between runners. This allows a continuous flow of runners on the video and eliminates any "dead" time on the footage.

3) We also make separate videos as needed with descriptive titles so you know what part of the race you are viewing. For instance finish line, top of the big hill, corner of Smith St and Jones St, etc.

This is a new service and is a work in progress. As more races are filmed I am sure we will be adding new features and enhancements to the videos. Check out a few of the videos we have filmed this summer on our new Race Event Videos page.

As we continue to develop this service we are offering this free to all races for the remainder of 2013. If you are a race director please contact me if you are interested in having View The Race film your event. In addition if anyone has any ideas on how to improve these videos please let me know. Our goal is to be the website athletes rely on to View The Race Before You Do The Race!

May 1st is the one year anniversary of View The Race! For the past year we have created race course videos with the goal of allowing athletes to "View The Race Before You Do The Race!"....As we celebrate our first year in business I am proud to say we have created 136 course videos representing 9 states and Canada. It has been a busy and rewarding year, and we have big plans to continue to expand our course video library in year two.

We have also attempted to inform/entertain our fan base with 61 blog posts over the past year. Subject matter has been varied and has covered juice fasting, weight loss, race reports, triathlon swim anxiety, and running tips just to name a few. We will continue to provide information through blog posts. I hope you have found a few of them informative or possibly just made you laugh or shake your head at some of the crazy ideas we discuss.

Special thanks to all of our 1000+ fans on Facebook, John Childs (MA RRCA State Rep), Claire Cloutier (Double C Racing), and some big events that really supported us in 2012....Vermont City Marathon, Manchester City Marathon, Maine Marathon, Feaster Five, Conquer the Bridge, Wallis Sands Half Marathon, Westford Road Race, and Red Rock Canyon Half Marathon. (just to name a few...we have had a ton of support)

Maybe you have seen one of our videos but are not aware of everything View The Race offers. We currently offer the below services to race directors to improve the quality of their event:

Course Videos

We film road races, triathlons, cycling races, and swim events of all distances from 5ks to full Ironman events.

All of our videos include:
- high quality video of race course
- course narration describing race and course by racing expert
- background music
- video page with race information and elevation chart
- free promotion of your race on View The Race calendar/website

How much does this cost? Due to the wide variety of events we film we do not have set prices. Our pricing is based on the length of race, location, and course requirements. Our prices range from as low as $150 (local 5k/5mile) to as much as $800+(long distance events).

Contact me for a free price quote!  ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Race Websites

View The Race also designs websites. Our websites are geared to providing athletes all of the information they need on race day. I have seen thousands of race websites and nothing is more depressing than being unable to find important info about your upcoming event. We ensure this doesn't happen by providing all of our race directors a questionnaire with all of the possible info needed for their event. We ask the right questions to ensure athletes will be provided with the right information.

Our high quality race websites are designed by our Creative Director, Jerry Paquette, who has over 20 years of experience designing websites. (including the VTR website) His extensive experience allows him to create a unique feel to every website.

After speaking with race directors we realized that many race directors have limited budgets and do not have the expertise to manage their race website. Due to this fact all VTR websites include complete website management as part of the sale price. After purchasing the website, race directors supply us with all of the information needed to create the website by filling out the VTR Website Data Sheet. After the new website is created all future changes are communicated by sending in an updated VTR Website Data Sheet or simply by sending us an email with the needed update/change.

Never again as a RD will you have to worry about finding someone to update your website or figure out how to make time to update your website. This allows Race Directors to do what they do best....Manage the Race! Let us take care of your website!

Our websites cost $600 and include hosting and a free domain name. Want to see a couple of examples?

Race Registration

VTR also offers race registration. Now we know there are a lot of companies that offer this service. We are not the biggest company or the most experienced, but if you are looking for a company that can handle your registration needs and will respond promptly to your concerns/questions then consider using VTR as your registration provider. To help promote our new service we are offering our website at the low price of $149 if you use us as your registration provider.

Contact me today for more info! ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. )

Want to see what our registration page looks like? Click on the register button on the website below.

Below is a video of some of the places we have been in year one. This is the video I am featuring at the RRCA Conference this year in Albuquerque.

The idea for this website started last fall when I was searching for an Ironman race to complete in 2012.  I'm turning 40 this summer, and I'm planning to complete my first Ironman as part of the "celebration".  Last fall I started researching Ironman races to decide which one to sign up for.  But even by scouring race websites I wasn't able to get all the information I would have liked to make this big decision.
Unfortunately this experience wasn't new to me. I've been completing road races and triathlons for over 25 years.  I love to travel to events, but I also complete a lot of events locally.  When I'm training for an important event, I try to prepare myself by learning as much as I can about the course.  If it's possible, I'll even drive the course before the event, so I know what to expect.
However, driving the course is often not an option and relying on race maps and descriptions can be frustrating.  So I decided to create a product that offers runners, cyclists and triathletes a chance to preview a race course prior to the event. offers videos of race courses with commentary.  I'm launching the site with over 50 race videos and plan to build the race library by adding new videos every week. I'm excited about offering a product that will provide fellow racers with an up close view of the race they're training for or thinking about signing up for. Welcome to and I hope my website can be a valuable tool in your race preparation.

And remember.....View The Race Before You Do The Race at!!
